What do you have to lose in a job application?

pathfolios predicts and expects that the six nearly seven billion people of the world require a job. If this assumption is wrong pathfolios should stop writing... but it won't because the world spins and even billionaire sons have jobs.

So. Minus those that don't have resumes that's still an overwhelming amount of resumes. No doubt that the suspicious of sending  in a 'resume-that-inconspiciously-disappears-never-to-be-seen' is a common trend. Another thing destroying chances is those that apply that aren't qualified just mounts on the pressure to read all those resumes. 

Seek or CareerOne is a common culprit of rarely even receiving a confirmation. Fair enough. Employees costs the most on the Balance Sheet and you go to Seek to get the widest exposure. 

These softwares can unfairly filter out resumes that don't use catchwords. Poor form! If you go to Coles and don't say customer service... Rejected. Software has its downfalls. It's unfair but really they are just trying to simplify and lessen the field to a size more reasonably handled .

You'd feel sorry for small companies who genuinely make the effort and then has over 1000 applications. Eek!

1. It's counterintuitive but try not to be too creative with words. Like writing that essay, use keywords to your advantage and use keywords in the job description in your resume. If you're applying to be a sales representative, make sure your resume includes the words "sales" and "customer service".

2. Know the corporate culture and tailor. Have these keywords present.

3. Keep the formatting on your resume simple and streamlined. Pictures and layout won't work on electronic readers.
