Looking the Part

A suit exudes confidence and sophistication. Wear one to an interview!
Making that immediate impression, those first five minutes, sets the tone for the entire interview.
You want your interviewers attention to be focused on what you are saying not drawn away to the smallest details like inappropriate clothing. Having a hazy memory of even the best answers affects your chances after the interview because your interviews report (or lack thereof) to the hiring managers and they can’t remember how good you were! Noooooooo!
Despite the exasperation of !!!equality!!! and how looks shouldn't matter which they obviously don’t but you don't want to have an encumbrance just in case. You will be gambling odds that you get a seasoned interviewer that does not get affected by such small irrelevancies but on the safe side, even for video interviews, dress appropriately!
Relevant Segue Alert: pathfolios does not recommending opting for a video interview unless absolutely necessary… It just doesn’t have the… authenticity. Making that crucial impression works only with real interactions. Those afraid of interviews should take a chance as it is quite awkward sitting in a room by yourself.
Do:
- Wear one that is fitted and comfortable.
- Match it with a shirt or blouse.
- The tie tip should go just above the belt buckle, not longer not shorter.
- The shirt sleeve just pops out a bit longer than the suit jacket.
- For the guys, shave. Girls, just be your delightful self.
- Arrive with plenty of time.
Don't:
- Spend exorbitant amounts like thousands of dollars to get one. Thrift shops are amazing.
- Buy a single jacket or bottom (skirt or pants) piece and then try and match it later. It never works!
- Wear flashy things that distract the interviewer.
- Borrow a suit from your parents. It is rather daggy.
Enough said. Possibly.
